French food shopping - worth a 24 hr trip to France for inspiration

It's a very windy Thursday here today (remnants of some tropical storm) & I am missing my 24 hr summer trips over to French food markets for amazing vegetable produce. There is something slightly different about food shopping in France which I can't put my finger on but all I know is that it feels less of a chore than in the UK.

You might easily ascribe that to the fact that the shopping trips happen whilst 'on holiday' but having lived in France for a significant portion of my life whilst doing snowboard seasons, I can confirm that even when living there, it still feels different - perhaps it's the way the food is packaged. There is a sense of being more connected to the food, even in supermarkets. When the produce has a scent, it's vibrant colours not filtered by wrapping & the texture is at your finger tips, it translates into a more inspirational shopping experience with better recipe ideas.

So, I think it's time to book more food reconnaissance trips before the seas get too choppy. See you very soon Cherbourg ...
